Behold the mighty Fredriksberg paper mill The industrial history of this site started in 1729 with the founding of a iron mill. As iron became less prosperous production shifted to paper in 1896. Being located in a forest covered rural area raw material was easy at hand and the smell (and waste ...) not a problem. However, due to high transportation costs and international competition the factory closed in June 1972 after decades of decreasing revenue. In the years following the shut-down a number of other business' tried their luck within these walls. Some stayed for quite a number of years but no-one beyond 1998 when last one moved out the area was fenced in. August 2006. |
